In cooperation with the Sarasota County Schools,Volunteer Community Connections coordinates adult volunteers to assist the local high school guidance office with verification of student community service application and hours. This enables students to complete the qualifications in order to obtain an elective credit towards graduation as well as qualify for the Florida Bright Futures and various scholarship programs.
Step 1
The student is required to complete the High-School-Community-Service-Application. This form lists the nonprofit and the type of volunteering they would like to perform for school credit or scholarship requirements. These requirements state that the service must be provided in a nonprofit setting. Students must have an application on file before beginning any student volunteer hours.
Step 2
Visit the adult volunteer at the high school to have your student application approved. Volunteer Community Connections accept applications in our office each Wednesday from 1:30 p.m. -3:30 p.m.
Step 3
The adult volunteer will issue the student a time log (Form #2) and an evaluation (Form #3). These forms remain with the student until they are turned in to the adult volunteer at the completion of all community service. Volunteer Community Connections will process time logs after 75, 100 or 150 hours have been served.
Step 4
Each day the student completes community service, the appropriate person from the non-profit will sign to verification that the hours were performed. Note: students may not volunteer more than 8 hours per day.
Step 5
When the student completes his/her community service requirement he/she returns the form to the volunteer at the high school to have the hours verified and approved. Volunteer Community Connections will accept time logs in our office each Wednesday from 1p.m.-3:30 p.m.
Step 6
The time log will then need to be submitted by the student to the Registrar's Office for input into they system.
